Puerto José Banús, better known as Puerto Banús, is a luxury marina located between Marbella and the town of San Pedro de Alcántara.

The port was inaugurated in May 1970 as one of the largest leisure centres on the Costa del Sol, achieving great prestige and international fame.

The beginning of Puerto Banús

Noldi Schreck, an well-known architect, was the one who participated in the construction and design of Beverly Hills and the same one who created the Beach Club of the Marbella Club Hotel.

He also convinced José Banús not to create a skyscraper, but to create an Andalusian town with a port. Hence the original idea of the current port that they created together.

Its inauguration was attended by great figures of the time such as the Princes of Monaco Rainiero and Grace Kelly, Roman Polanski, the founder of Play Boy Hugh Hefner among others.

Prince Salman, the brother of King Fahd who ordered the construction of the mosque, bought two pontoons in Puerto Banus with a value of more than one million euros, where they dock their ships.

Puerto Banus is visited annually by almost 5 million people attracted by the fame and luxury stores of big and recognized world brands such as: Dior, Chanel, Louis Vuitton and Bvlgari.

In addition, we also find several luxury hotels where great personalities and wealthy tourists come to enjoy Marbella and Puerto Banus.

It is the largest luxury shopping area in southern Spain, known for containing the largest number of luxury shops per square metre in the country.

It created a boulevard of fame like the one that exists in Hollywood, which pays tribute to all the personalities who have helped to make Marbella and Puerto Banus known nationally and internationally.

As a curiosity, in one of the roundabouts you can see Salvador Dalí’s sculpture “Rhinoceros dressed in lace”.

In addition, it is the fourth marina in the world ranking by mooring cost only surpassed by 3 Italian ports in the towns of Capri, Portofino and Sardinia.

On Saturdays you can enjoy in the port of a market where there are design stalls that offer clothing and jewelry.

In short, Puerto Banus is synonymous with exclusivity and luxury in a unique environment.
